Ken Nockerts

Years Active: 1947 - 2004

Ken Nockerts was a proud charter Optimist Club member whose lifelong roots in Green Bay shaped his enduring commitment to community service. Born and raised in the city, Ken graduated from East High School before continuing on to Marquette University. His leadership within the Club began early, serving as Program Chair in 1949 and acting as auctioneer for the Club’s first-ever auction. He went on to hold several key roles, including Sargent at Arms (1950–1951), Membership Chair (1952–1953), President (1953–1954), and a member of both the Membership Committee (1954–1955) and Nomination Committee (1955–1956).

Beginning in 1959, Ken became the Club Historian—a position he continued to hold for many years. Throughout the mid-1950s and 1960s, he crafted and maintained the Club’s annual scrapbook, which consistently earned first place at the District convention thanks to his meticulous effort. In 1961–1962, he was formally recognized for his long and dedicated service as a Charter Member. In 1966, Ken succeeded Walter Zahn in conducting new-member inductions, further shaping the Club’s traditions.

Beyond his leadership roles, Ken contributed in many hands-on ways: he chaired the Soap Box Derby, assisted with car inspections and pit crew operations, and stepped in as back-up newsletter editor whenever needed. His decades of service left an indelible mark on the Optimist Club of Green Bay and its history.
